TOWSON- Monica Jones, 26, an english major of Towson University has fought daily to arrive on time to school. She has been struggling with this battle since August 2009.

Jones, whom has an official parking pass to park on the campus arrives early. Her first class starts at 8:00 a.m. She arrives to the campus at 7:40 to find parking not to mention she has to walk a far distance to the class as well.

“I don’t mind the commute everyday, I leave from home early and I’m still stuck in traffic, then I get here and have to ride around in circles,” said Jones.

Jones has interesting ideas for some students who live far, and have to commute. She is a junior this year, and she would like to create something beneficial to those incoming students along with the ones who already exist. She would like to post some flyers around campus and gather a meeting, where people who live in different areas can car pool together.

“It would save time, money and frustration, we have to put all of that energy into our school work,” said Jones.

James Scott, 24, a chemistry major whom also attends Towson University doesn’t drive to school but is faced with the same issues.

These students have very different schedules, so they attend different times. Scott catches the bus to school or sometimes the MARC.

“I do wish that there was some type of school shuttle, that could pick you up at some point, so I wouldn’t have to deal with the hectic route,” said Scott.

There are five routes in which the shuttle travels but that is only good when you live in those areas.  Scott has tried to have someone to drop him off at the Towson Shuttle pick-up route but is sometimes unsuccessful. He said he knows that there will be a better way to travel to school, no matter what.

Scott is a sophomore whom has been traveling by bus since he has been attending the campus. He has to commute and doesn’t mind that he just wishes that it would be more of a convince in traveling than congestion.

“I would like to meet up and find someone whom I can ride with and share the cost in gas,” said Scott.

Sometimes you end up having a schedule where you may have to be in class longer than others or get out late. After 7:45 p.m. the school shuttle stops running. Scott is then left to walk and travel on his own to a local bus stop.

Former principal of Northwood Elementary School, Merrill Miller, 69, drops her grandson off everyday he has class.

“ I enjoy doing things like this since I have been retired it keeps me on my feet, I don’t mind driving my grandson to school I drop off all of my grandkids,” said Miller

Even though Miller’s grandson is old enough to drive and catch the bus she wouldn’t have it any other way. She feels that it is easier to take him to school because he does commute.

“He wouldn’t have to worry about finding a place to park, or walk a far distance, I drive him right up to the door like curb side assistance (laughing),” said Miller.

Jones who seems to have had the worst experience , but not the only student who has problems in commuting is planning to make flyers and will begin to post them on campus starting on October 14 and see if see can hold a meeting before November in Smith Hall.
